Tony Fontane was an American actor and singer. He was born on September 18, 1925 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He began his career as a singer, performing on the radio and in nightclubs. He made his film debut in the musical comedy "The Fabulous Dorseys" (1947). He went on to appear in several other films, including "The Big Beat" (1958), "The Beat Generation" (1959), and "The Young Swingers" (1963). He also appeared in television shows such as "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" (1952-1966) and "The Monkees" (1966-1968). Fontane was also a successful songwriter, writing the hit song "The Big Beat" for the film of the same name. He died on October 24, 1978 in Los Angeles, California.

Tony Fontane was born September 18, 1925 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and grew up in North Dakota and Chicago. He escaped the grinding poverty of his youth by joining the Coast Guard in World War II, after which he rose to prominence as a singer in the night clubs of New York. After winning the Major Bowes Original Amateur Hour, he enjoyed widespread success that included a recording contract with Mercury Records and his own television show on WGN in Chicago.
