In 2015, Miller was cast in the WGN America series Underground, playing the role of Cato, a runaway slave. He received critical acclaim for his performance and was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. In 2016, Miller starred in the film Selma, playing the role of James Bevel. He also appeared in the films Loving and The Birth of a Nation.
